Muesli Recipe (The real thing!)
Serves two
Preparation time: Approximately 10 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- 2 tablespoons [tbs] of raw rolled oats. Critical Note!1
- 2 tbs of freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 tbs of sweetened, condensed milk
- 2 tbs of freshly ground almonds
- 2 apples - medium to large, depending on appetite.
ADVANCE PREPARATION
Soak the 2 tbs of rolled oats overnight, in enough water to cover.
MORNING METHOD
- Juice a small lemon, placing 2 tbs juice in a suitably-sized bowl
- Add 2 tbs of sweetened condensed milk and mix together
- Add the soaked rolled oats, water and all. Mix again and put bowl aside
- Grind the almonds (4-6 almonds = 1 tbs ground almonds, depending on size.)
- Wash & core the apple, (don't peel)
- Grate the apples into the bowl. Mix so that all the grated apple is coated with the mixture2
- Serve into plates and sprinkle the ground almonds on top.
Eat and assimilate! If indulgent wickedness strikes, eat half from your plate, as it comes from the bowl, then put a modest amount of liquid or very lightly whipped cream (or yoghurt) on the remainder.
If Muesli is to be part of a larger meal, always serve as an appetiser, preceded only by fruit juice as a pre-meal drink.
1Only raw, untreated, unheated, un-toasted (unstabilised) oats will do! Usually only available from Health Food Shops. Inquire earnestly about the processing status and age of the oats. Avoid quick or instant oats! Store surplus oats and almonds in the freezer or fridge.
2Tip: grate 1 apple, mix, grate remaining apple[s], mix again.
